Libraries are still way cool
There’s a lot of speculation about the future of libraries at the moment, especially around their purpose in the face of print decline. For example, will they act as internet hub museums, which house textual relics that the public can look at, but must refrain from touching?
Mediabistro has a post about the New York Public Libraries, which are facing $37 million in cuts this year, meaning, among other things, potential closures.
So the New York Public Library has come up with a campaign, Don’t Close the Book. And commissioned a video from New York’s Improv Everywhere (a group that ‘causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places’), inspired by 1984’s Ghostbusters, to publicise their plight.
